Born in Lisbon, graduated in law from the Universidade Católica, Lisbon. Masters and PhD from the Lisbon Faculty of Law.
Professor at the Lisbon Faculty of Law and member of the Centre for International Legal Studies, Salzburg. Awarded scholarships by the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Amélia Silva de Mello Foundation and by DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst).

Member of the Portuguese Bar Association since 1988. He works principally in the areas of commercial law, company law, securities law, civil law, civil procedure and banking law. He has assisted in some of the largest privatization operations, mergers and acquisitions, including friendly and hostile take-overs, undertaken in Portugal, as well as in syndicated loan operations. He has also been called on as an expert witness and arbitrator in domestic and international arbitration proceedings, as ICC arbitrator, as well as being included in the list of arbitrators of the Commercial Arbitration Centre of the Lisbon Commercial Association.
