Albuquerque & Associados has a busy Angolan practice, with a team of lawyers divided between Lisbon and Angola. The team members based in Portugal have special ties with Angola and significant experience in issues and cases relating to Angolan law. The legal staff based in Angola belong to an affiliated firm in Luanda.
The African and Angolan Law Department was founded with Prof. Eduardo Vera-Cruz collaboration.
Prof. Eduardo Vera-Cruz is a professor at the University of Lisbon, Vice President of the Institute of Cooperation and African Affairs at the University of Lisbon, Legal Training Officer for UNESCO DANIDA (the Danish Agency developing and strengthening democracy and human rights in Africa) and also coordinator of the Academic Project “Africa Reborn”, for cooperation between the academic communities of the Portuguese-speaking countries for the Development of Democracy and Human Rights in Africa. He also contributes legal support to the project run by the European Commission and the Council of Europe to promote reform of Public Administration and Justice in Portuguese-speaking Countries.
These arrangements allow Albuquerque & Associados to advise its clients in Angola in a range of business sectors, from banking to petrochemicals, addressing issues in all branches of law.
Albuquerque & Associados’ chief business in Angola is in the financial sector. The firm was instrumental in setting up one of the country’s leading banks, and has subsequently provided it with legal support.
